Learn more about Anxiety and School Avoidance, Functional Behavior Assessments

Anxiety and School Avoidance: Anxiety is a natural part of childhood, but when anxiety gets in the way of a child’s ability to learn, families may need support and services through the Committee on Special Education. Learn how to collaborate with your child’s school and what supports and services may be available through school for a child who has anxiety.

Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans: Sometimes a child’s behaviors interfere with learning. Students and teachers need strategies to minimize those behaviors and to maximize learning opportunities. We will explore the nature of a child’s behavior and when a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) should be requested. An FBA helps to determine why a student engages in behaviors that impede learning. We will share tools and strategies to support student success, and what types of supports and services might be needed.

We will provide light snacks and water. Feel free to bring your own lunch.
